MediaChalk is an exciting new program for our school! I have students from 1st to 6th grade enjoying the aspects of storyboarding, picking music, recording their own voices, and ultimately creating their own movies. Many of them continue to do MediaChalk at home!

RECESS OR MEDIACHALK

A third grade class was learning about The Peabody Ducks of Memphis. They introduced the MediaChalk Story Creator to the students by creating a duck story together as a class. As recess approached a student said, "I think we should stay in from recess and work on MediaChalk instead."

"When my students have completed their work and are given ‘their choice’ on our Third Grade Web-Site, I hear several students say in unison, "I'm going to MediaChalk!"

BALANCED FUN AND LEARNING

We’ve had students from 1st grade through middle school effectively use MediaChalk and I like how the program balances fun and learning. I have used technology in my classroom for over 10 years and MediaChalk impresses me because it doesn’t overshadow the curriculum being taught - it enhances it. Some technology requires so much energy that the learning objectives get lost in the process, but not MediaChalk. It is versatile and flexible enough to be used by individual students, students in small groups, or in a whole class setting. I’m excited to continue using MediaChalk with my elementary and middle school students this upcoming school year.

AN AMAZINGLY CREATIVE OUTLET

1...2...3...Lights...Camera...Action!  That is what Gonzales Primary is doing with their textbook lessons - turning them into interactive learning tools!  Thanks to MediaChalk, stories that were once confined to their two-dimensional pages are coming to life.  Students are able to summarize, retell, and extend what they have learned by creating their own movie, complete with narration and sound effects.

Anjelle B., a 5th grade student at the school, says her favorite thing about MediaChalk is, “all the fun stuff they have to add to your movie like food and scary things.”

Teachers are also utilizing MediaChalk to make their lessons more interesting and engaging to students.  The program has provided an amazingly creative outlet to further the learning process across curriculums and Gonzales Primary is very pleased!

TEACHING STORY ELEMENTS

In the fourth grade we’ve used the program as a storyboard for our narrative essay-writing unit.  Students created slides and then wrote text to accompany them.  MediaChalk was very helpful in teaching the students story elements, as they learned to include consistent characters, setting, and plot events in each of their slides and subsequent paragraphs.  It also reinforced transitioning from paragraph to paragraph as their paragraphs changed with their slides.
